-PlasmaSkins was established circa 1999 as a non-commercial artistic outlet during a period of university study in the multimedia field. Original works largely consisted of modding and primarily skinning for the Quake III gaming engine. Several skins became popular within the community at that time, mainly for the LucasArts/Raven Software/Activision gaming titles, Star Wars: Jedi Knight II Jedi Outcast and Star Wars: Jedi Academy.
The artist, -Plasma, has been continuously involved within the worldwide gaming community and was a co-founder of the Guild Alliance gaming organization, a non-profit social gaming community spanning several game titles and respective guild organizations.
During these years, the artist has created artworks spanning the entire range of multimedia [image/video/sound] and has been working with non-commercial generative AI tools since 2023. In 2026, the artist decided to monetize a small portion of artworks in order to fund a greater initiative.
The -PlasmaSkins: Digital Pop Culture Restoration and Preservation Initiative is a non-profit attempt to restore and preserve works in the public domain so that they may be brought to current standards of visual fidelity. While AI is a miraculous tool for image creation, editing, and restoration, a great deal of manual editing must also take place in order for an image to be restored as close as possible to the original.
